The Mini Cooper N12, N13, N14, N16 and N18 engines are direct injection GDI engines and suffer badly from intake carbon buildup. Fortunately, with these engines the contamination is largely limited to the intake valve heads and stems and for most people cleaning this only involves one or two interventions during the lifetime of the vehicle.

This engine does not handle carbon buildup very well, and symptoms can start as low as 60k miles.
Carbon related symptoms for the Mini N12, N13, N14, N16 or N18 engine can include:
- Misfire and rough idle (particularly when cold)
- Performance issues such as jerkiness and hesitance when accelerating
- Poor fuel economy
- Check Engine Light (MIL) on

The carbon cleaning service I offer for the Mini N12, N13, N14, N16 and N18 engines involves removal of the intake manifold and throttle body, walnut blast cleaning of the intake ports and valves, cleaning of any removed components such as intake manifold, throttle body, etc, and replacement of all gaskets and seals upon reassembly. Engine diagnostic checks are made before and after the service.

This is a 6hr service at £360 for callout, labour, diagnostic checks and consumables, plus gaskets currently at £18.85, so a total of £378.85 all in.

To perform this service I will just need an off-street location such as private driveway, and a power connection.
